The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 is clear in explaining who is responsible for building and managing asbestos within them. Asbestos was used in commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

The duty of those in charge of premises to manage the control of asbestos is to:

· Contact an asbestos surveying company to establish if and where the asbestos is within the building
· Presume materials contain asbestos unless there is strong evidence to prove otherwise
· Keep up to date records of the location and condition of asbestos materials on site Asses the risk
· Have a plan on how to manage these materials
· Review the plan regularly
· Provide this information to anyone working in the building.

Asbestos removal is very highly legislated in the UK and most only be undertaken by companies which are fully licensed, by staff who have the correct training and medicals. Although a very dangerous substance if done so correctly asbestos removal doesn't create danger.
